This is a drawer in a desk that was
just not being used very well. Only 3 hanging file
folders hide in the back, and in front, binders and
accordion folders held different types and sizes of
paper. This meant that to put something away, several
steps were involved: pull out the appropriate device,it up, go to the right spot and file the paper
away. Too many steps! |
Ahh, much better! Every
piece of paper from all of those different systems
is now consolidated and organized by category and
type of document. Color-coding folders and clearly
labeling them reduces the amount of steps to two:
find the folder and put the paper away! This saves
time and keeps all paperwork in one neat place. |
This hutch is in the kitchen where
a lot of traffic comes and goes into the family room.
Hence, things just get dumped onto here at the end
of the day. The top display area is being half used
to display glasses, while the other half is collecting
clutter and missing a shelf. The drawers were full
of all sorts of things and the bottom cabinets had
larger items just tossed in as piles. |
After organizing the hutch, it now
has several distinct functions. The top is now strictly
for displaying collectibles and glasses, and the owner
is to put in the second shelf and pull out the boxes
of nice glasses that she is storing in her bedroom!
The countertop is going to have a basket for the little
girl's daily school papers. The drawers are now utility
drawers containing tools, candles and other useful
items that are now at hand. The bottom left cabinet
stores the little girl's large craft containers, and
the right cabinet holds large serving bowls and trays. |
