Below are some useful organizing tips to
get you started on your way to a more organized life!
 |
In the closet, sort clothes in two ways. First,
keep different clothing items separate, so create
different sections for pants, blouses, suits, dresses,
skirts, etc. Second, arrange each section by color,
from white to black and through the rainbow. These
techniques will not only save you time looking for
something to wear, but it will also ensure color
coordination! |

Memorabilia needs to be treated with the respect that you have for it. Pull it out, dust it off,
and display it prominently, or invest in quality archive materials such as acid-free photo albums, tight, plastic containers and other preservation methods. |
 |
Photos should all be stored using the same system--either
in albums or in boxes, not a bit of both! Also,
remove blurry and duplicate photos, as all they
do is take up space. For the very adventurous, scan all of your photos and store them onto a hard drive--and throw out the negatives! |
 |
Minimize the amount of steps it takes to access something that is frequently used. For example,
if you use your toaster every morning, leave it
out on the counter, don't store it in a cabinet--this creates unnecessary steps to take it out and
put it back every day.

For items such as books, toys, movies and clothes, use the Revolving Door
technique: for each new item that you purchase,
remove one from your home that you no longer need, have outgrown, have worn out, etc. If it's still in good condition, gift it to a friend, donate
it to a charity, or sell it in a second-hand shop. |
 |
In the garage, getting equipment off of the floor
allows you to actually park your car in there! Install
a shelving system with large hooks and baskets for
hanging gardening equipment and storing sporting
goods.
|
 |
Don't feel guilty about getting rid of gifts that you never used or did not like. Remember, it
is the thought that counts. And, it is better to
give the item to someone who is going to use and
appreciate it rather than having it take up valuable
space in your home. |
