Bedroom |
|
|
|
|
This is one bedroom in a home full of clutter.
We managed to remove a lot of unnecessary items
like empty boxes and old clothing to make this space
functional again. You could not even walk into the
room when we first began.
|
While there is still a bit more work to be done,
the floor is visible, the bed is usable, the dresser
is empty and the desk is almost clear. The residents
were delighted that they could move their second-story
bedroom down to this room.

Small Filing
System |
|
|
This is a drawer in a desk that was
just not being used very well. Only 3 hanging file
folders hide in the back, and in front, binders and
accordion folders held different types and sizes of
paper. This meant that to put something away, several
steps were involved: pull out the appropriate device,
open it up, go to the right spot and file the paper
away. Too many steps! |
Ahh, much better! Every
piece of paper from all of those different systems
is now consolidated and organized by category and
type of document. Color-coding folders and clearly
labeling them reduces the amount of steps to two:
find the folder and put the paper away! This saves
time and keeps all paperwork in one neat place. |

In this garage, the challenge was
to provide storage but also free up floor space to
set up all of the exercise equipment that is strewn
all over. As you can see, some shelves were not being
used efficiently, and all of them were very hard to
get to with everything in front of them. |
A lot of things were removed either
because they were no longer wanted, or because there
were more suitable locations to store the items elsewhere
in the house. The two good shelving units against
the back wall were repurposed to hold camping equipment,
household items, and large, clear bins for gardening
and car items. The two metal shelving units on the
side were relocated to the basement for more indoor
storage. Now all that needs to be done is to donate
the toys at the bottom left corner, and set up the
exercise room! |

Hallway
Hutch |
|
|
This hutch is in the kitchen where
a lot of traffic comes and goes into the family room.
Hence, things just get dumped onto here at the end
of the day. The top display area is being half used
to display glasses, while the other half is collecting
clutter and missing a shelf. The drawers were full
of all sorts of things and the bottom cabinets had
larger items just tossed in as piles. |
After organizing the hutch, it now
has several distinct functions. The top is now strictly
for displaying collectibles and glasses, and the owner
is to put in the second shelf and pull out the boxes
of nice glasses that she is storing in her bedroom!
The countertop is going to have a basket for the little
girl's daily school papers. The drawers are now utility
drawers containing tools, candles and other useful
items that are now at hand. The bottom left cabinet
stores the little girl's large craft containers, and
the right cabinet holds large serving bowls and trays. |

Home
Office |
 |
 |
|
|
This is a home office where one desk
is to be used for the computer, and the other desk
is for bill paying and other writing functions. All
of the desk space was covered by a wide variety of
things. The filing cabinet in the top photo is full
and needs to be purged and updated. The file cabinet
in the bottom photo is empty! |
In the reorganization process, we
gathered up all of the boxes of the husband's things
and placed them under his computer desk--he now has
to sort them and store them in a better place such
as a closet where momentos are not frequently accessed.
The empty filing cabinet was used for storage of office
supplies. The multitude of papers were gathered into
the corner on the right...for the next appointment! |
